Her Honor the Vice President Inonge Wina was on 9th August 2016 in Mongu to open the new Fuel Depot. The Mongu Fuel Depot is  the fourth provincial depot that was been commissioned in the first phase of the programme to construct Fuel Depots countrywide. The other Depots already commissioned under the first phase were Lusaka, Mpika and Solwezi Depots

The second phase of the c programme will target  construction of storage depots in Choma, Chipata, and Mansa. These are envisioned to be completed within the next three years. The Mongu Fuel Storage Depot is a modern fuel depot with state of the art equipment and will be able to store six point five (6.5) million liters of petroleum products

This facility will cater for petroleum supplies to meet the demands of various consumer categories. This also entails that Fuel Tankers supplying the Western Province would not have to travel all the way to Ndola to pick up products but will do so at this depot. This project has been fully funded by the Zambian government through the Strategic Reserve Fund (SRF).
