  • to compile inventories of energy resources, detailed patterns of productions, distribution, consumption and pricing of energy;
  • to maintain an energy information system to be used for planning, forecasting and policy analysis;
  • to monitor and evaluate trends of production, consumption and prices of energy; 
  • to offer technical advise to the Ministry on matters related to parastatal companies and other quasi-government  institutions directly falling under the Ministry’s responsibility; and
  • to co-ordinate regional energy programmes.
